I almost feel guilty claiming this as a new recipe for my New Year's Resolution, but it's my first time to make it and I get to make up the rules, so I figure it counts! This is also my first time to use this trifle bowl in a non-decorative item since we got married. We're well on our way to our third anniversary, so I guess it's about time!
Ingredients:
1 angel food cake
1 box of strawberries
1 large container of Cool Whip.
I made this for a work birthday party this week. I was in the process of cutting everything to make it when I realized that it might get soggy sitting in the fridge overnight. I decided to go ahead and cut everything and then quickly assemble it in the morning.
Cut the angel food cake into one in. cubes and then put them bake in the container they came in. (You may have to smoosh them a little!)
Cut the tops off of the strawberries and slice into bite size pieces. Put into a storage container, cover with a good amount of sugar or splenda and refridgerate overnight.
Make sure your Cool Whip is in the fridge so it will be soft in the morning.
I layered mine twice in the order of cake, strawberries then Cool Whip. The chocolate topping is where I got fancy though! I first wrote out Happy Birthday in fancy letters on a plain piece of paper. I taped in on the counter and covered it with plenty of seran wrap. Using some special chocolate Lauren brought us from Belgium, I melted a small amount in a ziplock. Once it was ready, I snipped the end off to use as a piping bag and then traced over the Happy Birthday. Let sit overnight until hard and viola! Beautiful cake toppers!
This was a super easy recipe and it turned out delicious! Everyone gave me a compliment on it and I loved it because it didn't take a whole lot of time. Next time you have a party or need to take dessert, save yourself the effort and make this!
Enjoy!
No wonder everyone was happy. If it tasted as good as it looks, you did good. Enjoy your Monday!
ReplyDeleteLook at you, Fancy Pants! The chocolate lettering is GORGEOUS. That's definitely a good trick to have up your sleeve :)
